Brown Sugar Garlic Chicken Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar packed
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce low sodium preferred
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup water or chicken broth optional, for sauce thinning
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes or paprika for extra flavor
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or green onions

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Chicken:
  • Pat chicken dry using paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper. If using thick breasts, consider slicing or pounding for even thickness.
  • Sear the Chicken:
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add chicken and sear for 5–6 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  • Make the Sauce:
  • In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in brown sugar, soy sauce, and water or broth (if using). Let simmer for 2–4 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken.
  • Glaze the Chicken:
  • Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Spoon sauce over the top and simmer for another 2–3 minutes, allowing the glaze to coat the chicken evenly.
  • Serve:
  • Garnish with fresh parsley or green onions. Serve hot with rice, vegetables, or your favorite sides.

Notes

  • To prevent burning the brown sugar, always reduce heat before simmering the sauce.
  • This dish can also be baked: Place chicken in a baking dish, pour sauce over, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
  • For added spice, stir in chili flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
