Ingredients

For the apple slices

  • 12 medium crisp apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Fuji, or Gala
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 24 to 36 wooden craft sticks lollipop sticks, cocktail forks, or small bamboo skewers

For the dips and drizzles

  • 2 cups thick caramel dip or caramel sauce
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips or chopped milk chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or neutral vegetable oil optional, for smoother melted chocolate
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips optional
  • ¼ cup peanut butter optional, for drizzle

Topping ideas

  • ½ cup crushed pretzels
  • ½ cup toffee bits
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips
  • ½ cup crushed graham crackers or cookie crumbs
  • ½ cup mini marshmallows
  • ½ cup chopped peanuts pecans, walnuts, or almonds
  • ¼ cup shredded coconut
  • ¼ cup fall sprinkles
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar
  • Flaky sea salt optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the apples: Wash and dry all apples. Cut each apple into 8 to 10 thick wedges, removing cores and seeds.
  • Prevent browning: In a large bowl, mix lemon juice and cold water. Soak apple slices for about 2 minutes. Drain well and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Add sticks: Insert a wooden craft stick, lollipop stick, cocktail fork, or small skewer into the bottom of each apple slice, if desired.
  • Prepare caramel: Add thick caramel dip to a wide serving bowl. If using melted caramel, warm gently and allow it to cool slightly before serving.
  • Melt chocolate: Place milk chocolate chips and optional coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth. Repeat with white chocolate if using.
  • Set up the bar: Arrange apple slices on a chilled platter. Place caramel in the center, then arrange toppings in individual bowls around it. Add small spoons or tongs to each topping bowl.
  • Serve: Let guests dip apple slices in caramel, add toppings, and finish with chocolate or peanut butter drizzle.
  • Store safely: Keep unused apple slices refrigerated. Refill the platter in small batches during the party.

Notes

  • Use crisp apples for the best texture. Granny Smith apples are tart, while Honeycrisp and Fuji apples are sweeter.
  • A brief lemon-water soak helps slow browning. Soak apple slices for about 2 minutes, then dry them thoroughly before serving.
  • Use thick caramel dip rather than thin coffee syrup so it clings to the apple slices.
  • Set out topping bowls with individual spoons to keep the dessert station clean.
  • Keep nuts separate and clearly labeled for guests with allergies.
  • Refrigerate unused sliced apples and do not leave the apple bar out for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour when the temperature is above 90°F.fda+1
  • Prepare toppings in advance, but cut apples and set up the bar on the same day for the best appearance.
