packed brown sugar

semisweet chocolate chips
divided

ground cinnamon

chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8-by-8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Whisk in the melted butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla.
Add the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon if using. Stir just until combined.
Fold in 1/2 cup chocolate chips and the nuts if using.
Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips over the top.
Bake for 22 to 27 minutes, until the center is set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool completely before lifting from the pan and slicing into 12 bars.
Notes
Use bananas with plenty of brown spots for the sweetest flavor and moistest texture. Do not overmix the batter after adding flour.
