Ingredients

  • cups fresh or frozen strawberries hulled and chopped
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar divided: 2 tbsp for berries, rest for base
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 –2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice optional, for brightness

Instructions

Macerate the Strawberries:

  • In a bowl, combine the chopped strawberries with 2 tablespoons of sugar. Let sit for 15–20 minutes until juicy. Lightly mash or blend to your desired texture (chunky or smooth).

Mix the Base:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together whole milk and remaining sugar until dissolved. Stir in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and lemon juice (if using). Add the prepared strawberry mixture and mix well.

Chill the Mixture:

  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours (or overnight) to chill completely. A cold base helps the ice cream churn better.

Churn in the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker:

  • Set up your Cuisinart ice cream maker (ensure the bowl is fully frozen). Turn it on and pour the mixture into the bowl while it’s spinning. Churn for 20–25 minutes, or until thick and creamy.

Freeze for Firmer Texture:

  • Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container. Cover the surface with parchment or plastic wrap to prevent ice crystals. Freeze for 2–4 hours until firm.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Scoop into cones, bowls, or use for kid-friendly creations like ice cream sandwiches or sundaes!
