- 4 slices Italian bread or ciabatta about ½‑inch thick
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened
- 1 clove garlic minced (or ¼ tsp garlic powder)
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp Italian dressing plus more for drizzling
- 4 oz 115 g sliced salami
- 4 oz 115 g sliced pepperoni
- 4 oz 115 g sliced ham
- 4 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 4 –6 lettuce leaves
- 1 medium tomato sliced
- ¼ cup red onion thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp banana peppers sliced (optional)
- Optional: red pepper flakes or hot honey for serving
- Optional: 1 tbsp fresh basil or parsley chopped
Prep garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic (or garlic powder) until combined. Set aside.
Assemble sandwiches: Spread mayonnaise and Italian dressing on the inside of each bread slice. Layer salami, pepperoni, and ham evenly on two slices. Top with cheese slices, then lettuce, tomato, red onion, and banana peppers. Drizzle lightly with extra Italian dressing if desired. Cap with remaining bread slices.
Butter the bread: Spread garlic butter evenly on the outside (top) of each sandwich.
Grill in skillet: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a small amount of oil or butter if needed. Place sandwiches butter‑side‑up in the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted.
Or use a panini press: Preheat panini press. Place sandwiches on the press and close lid. Cook for 4–5 minutes until crispy and cheese is melted.
Serve: Remove from heat and slice in half diagonally or into sliders. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes or drizzle with hot honey if desired. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Serve immediately.
