Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry approximately 320–หน้? grams, thawed but chilled
  • ½ cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • ¼ cup sliced pepperoni optional
  • ¼ cup finely diced bell pepper
  • ¼ cup sliced mushrooms optional
  • ¼ cup halved cherry tomatoes optional
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil or parsley chopped, for garnish
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place the chilled puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 12 equal squares or rectangles.
  • Arrange the pastry pieces on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly score a border around each piece, taking care not to cut all the way through the pastry.
  • Spread approximately 1 teaspoon of pizza sauce in the center of each pastry piece, leaving the edges uncovered.
  • Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the sauce. Add the pepperoni, bell pepper, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, or other desired toppings.
  • Sprinkle the tarts with dried oregano and Italian seasoning.
  • Brush the exposed pastry edges with beaten egg. Avoid brushing the sauce and cheese.
  • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Remove the tarts from the oven and allow them to cool for approximately 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and red pepper flakes, if desired. Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use only a thin layer of sauce to help prevent soggy pastry.
  • Cook mushrooms or other watery vegetables before adding them to the tarts.
  • Keep the puff pastry cold until you are ready to use it.
  • For vegetarian pizza puff pastry tarts, omit the pepperoni.
  • Reheat leftovers in an oven or air fryer to help restore their crispy texture.
